‘Embarrassing’- Bradford fans react to shock head coach appointment

Today, Bradford City announced the shock appointment of Michael Collins as their new head coach. He will be assisted by Greg Abbott and Martin Drury, who take on roles as assistant coaches. Bantams supporters have been reacting to this surprise news.

Several candidates were linked to the role in recent times. It would be fair to say that not one Bradford City supporter even remotely suggested that this would be the way the club would go. We have quickly jumped onto Twitter to see how this has gone down with the fans.

Collins does at least have some coaching experience, albeit in the form of an Under-18 role with the club in recent times. At the age of 32, he becomes one if, if not the, youngest manager in the English Football League. Over the course of his playing career he played for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Scunthorpe United, Oxford United and Leyton Orient. He won promotion during his time at Glanford Park, out of League Two, in 2014. Collins says he is ‘honoured’ to have been handed the job.

Co-owner Edin Rahic interesting revealed that the appointed management trio were the only candidates to have been offered a contract by the football club. He also stated that they have already been working on player recruitment over the last couple of weeks.
