Leeds United to fight West Brom for striker’s signature

The Birmingham Mail have reported that Leeds United could be set to lock horns with West Brom in a battle to sign Derby County striker Matej Vydra.

It’s been widely reported that Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa have both shown a key interest in last seasons Championship top goalscorer, however, the Baggies are apparently set to join the chase to secure the strikers signature.

Vydra impressed for Derby County last season, scoring 21 goals in 40 Championship games for the Rams, helping to fire them to the play-offs last season.

The rumours are that Frank Lampard has been told that he needs to cut his budget accordingly for the forthcoming season at Derby County, and it appears to be the case that selling Matej Vydra will free up the money to be able to do so.

Leeds United are thought to have greater spending power under the leadership of Marcelo Bielsa, with it being reported that the Argentinian is going to be given an eight-figure budget for the upcoming season.

West Brom, however, are thought to have a greater chance of securing Vydra’s signature for the upcoming season, with the newly relegated side reportedly having a bigger wage budget to tempt the striker to make the move to the Hawthorns.

This could be quite the battle between the two Championship clubs for the strikers signature and although Vydra has been given a price-tag of around £7 million, there could be a big bidding contest between the two clubs, to secure the strikers signature for next season.
