Premier League club set to sign £20m James Maddison

Following a report from Talk Sport, it is understood that Premier League club Southampton are on the verge of signing James Maddison from Norwich City.

It’s been reported that Southampton have had a bid, in the region of £20m, accepted by Norwich City for James Maddison. This is after Norwich claimed they wouldn’t let him go for any less than £25m just two months ago.

James Maddison is one of the highest rated players in the entire Championship. At just 21 years of age, Maddison has set the Championship alight after scoring 14 goals and assisting eight times in his full debut Championship campaign. This impressive season has caught the attention of the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham but it looks like it’ll be Southampton who gets their hands on the promising young talent.

The 21-year-old has also been called up to the England U21’s where he has played on three occasions. This move to the big stage, that he’s thoroughly earnt, is exactly what he needs to claim his stake on a role in the England senior squad. If he was to impress in the Premier League, who knows? We could be seeing him on the plane to Euro 2020 and Qatar 2022.

£20m is a massive fee for such a young Championship player and it certainly begs the question, just how much does this make Ryan Sessegnon worth? £40m? £50m? Even more? At just 18 years of age, he’s one of the greatest talents the Championship has ever witnessed. Now he’s in the Premier League he has his chance to prove himself as one of the top English players in the world which many believe he can be.

Only time will tell just how far will both these go in the world of football. But what is for certain is that these two are both incredible young players with very promising futures ahead of them.
