Juan Foyth to Leeds? Argentina, Pochettino, Tottenham and Leeds, Bielsa means it would make sense

Juan Foyth is now hotly tipped to be on the wish list of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United and the deal would make perfect sense. Surely a phone call from his father figure in football Marcelo Bielsa would push Mauricio Pochettino into allowing Leeds to have one of their star youngsters for a season?

Here it is broken down. It never hurts to have someone from your own country playing for you in a foreign league, Marcelo Bielsa and Juan Foyth both hail from Argentina. Mauricio Pochettino calls Marcelo Bielsa his father figure in football, helping him out makes complete sense. Pochettino wants Foyth, one of his most talented youngsters developed correctly, Bielsa would provide that in his eyes. Foyth wants first-team exposure and gets to play for one of the most talented coaches in the history of Argentina. Leeds need defenders…two plus two is four, quick maths.

Foyth is one of the most talented youngsters on the books at Tottenham Hotspur currently and is rated very highly by manager Mauricio Pochettino. The 20-year-old impressed that much in less than 10 first-team games for Estudiantes that Pochettino parted with the best part of £10 million to secure his services last summer. With the weight of expectation heavy on Spurs shoulders these days Foyth didn’t see bags of first-team football at Spurs but did play in both cup competitions as well as a few times in the Premier League.

Reports, mainly from the Tottenham end signalled that Bielsa may well be calling on favours from his old player for some young players. The benefit is huge for Pochettino, sending his own young players to play first-team football under the coach that taught him much of what he knows. Leeds currently have Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper as the only two recognised first-team central defenders although youngster Paudie O’Connor had a good end to the season and will probably be travelling with the first-team this pre-season.
