Rotherham, Three players Rotherham United could sign for their first season back in the Championship

Three players Rotherham United could sign for their first season back in the Championship

After a tumultuous season during the 2016/17 campaign, Rotherham were relegated to League One. However, 12 months on, the Millers now find themselves back in the second tier. Here are three players they could sign for a longer stay in the Championship this time around:

Marc McNulty, Coventry City –  After a slow start to the League Two campaign, McNulty couldn’t stop scoring for the Sky Blues. He joined the club from Sheffield United on a two year deal last summer and his contract is set to run out at the end of next season. Therefore, the Sky Blues can either sell one of their top assets or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer. After 26 goals and 10 assists in League Two, he’s more than proven himself and Paul Warne should look to sign the Scotsman to score the goals for Rotherham next season.

Luke Steele, Free agent – With Marek Rodak’s loan deal expiring at the New York Stadium, it leaves the Millers without a number one goalkeeper. Despite Steele being 33 now, he still has the potential to be a Championship starter next campaign. He only made 5 appearances for Bristol City last season, largely due to the good form of Frank Fielding. Steele would be available on a free transfer and should be considered by Rotherham.

Mustapha Carayol, Free agent – The pacy winger was released by Nottingham Forest after falling out of favour with Aitor Karanka. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Ipswich Town where he scored a goal and impressed during his time at Portman Road. He is a player with a wealth of Championship experience, and his pace and power are attributes that are missing from the Miller squad.
