West Ham to rival Everton and Leicester City for Norwich City playmaker

It appears that West Ham have now joined the race with Everton and Leicester City to sign Norwich City playmaker James Maddison, according to The Mirror.

West Ham have been tracking the £25million-Maddison and are now ready to firm up their interest in the England Under-21 star. Following Manuel Lanzini’s injury on international duty.

Lanzini ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in training last week, ruling him out of the World Cup, and the Argentina international could be set for a substantial period on the side-lines.

The Hammers face tough competition from Leicester and Everton should they bid and both are very keen on Maddison.

Maddison, who scored 15 goals for the Canaries last season, this form saw him named as the Canaries’ Player-of-the-Season. Maddison has had a major breakthrough this year and now could be making the next step in his career with a move to the Premiership.

The Coventry academy product is one of the hottest prospects in the Championship and Norwich reluctantly accept they must cash in on their biggest asset. The East Anglian club have already sold Josh Murphy to Cardiff City for £11m.

Josh made his debut for the Norwich during the 2013/14 season before going on to make 108 appearances and scoring 20 goals. Last season he made 47 appearances for the Canaries, hitting 11 goals.

Also, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for Maddison but this is less likely to happen following Spurs putting a bid in for the talented Jack Grealish.

Maddison would demand a fee of over £20m, but this sum is a lot less than what Aston Villa are asking for Grealish, with reports they have placed a £40m price tag on his head. However, their crippling financial situation at Aston Villa may see them sell for a lot less.
