Journalist unsure on rumours linking Leeds United with 110 cap international striker

The appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as the new manager of Leeds United has sent the footballing world a little bit crazy.

The famous Argentinian manager has enjoyed spells at European giants such as Athletic Bilbao and Marseille, but will take his first venture into English management after his move to Leeds United was confirmed today (June 15).

Following his appointment, rumours are bound to appear linking a number of big name players with a move to Elland Road. In fact, it has already started, with former Liverpool, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres being bizarrely linked with a move to the Yorkshire club.

It seems bizarre, but Phil Hay, who writes for the Yorkshire Evening Post, has refushed to squash these rumours, simply stating that he is unsure whether or not there is anything in it.

Whilst his answer of “pass, don’t know,” is hardly confirmation that a deal could be on, it seems slightly strange that he has not outright ruled it out. This potentially gives some hope to Leeds United fans that perhaps miracles do happen, and Torres could potentially be one of their targets this summer.

Fernando Torres is one of the most well-known names in world football, and will go down as one of the best strikers of this generation. He is currently without a club after confirming he would leave boyhood side Atletico Madrid following the conclusion of his contract.

Torres has won the European Championships twice, as well as the World Cup once with his native Spain, and has earned 110 caps for his country.
