How will Marcelo Bielsa improve the current Leeds United squad?

Leeds United have pulled off a massive coup by appointing Marcelo Bielsa as new head coach, but how will he improve this Leeds United squad?

Marcelo Bielsa has signed a two year deal at Elland Road with the club holding an option for a further year.

Bielsa is a vastly experienced coach and has previously enjoyed success as head coach of the Argentina and Chile national teams, as well as at club level with Newell’s Old Boys, Athletic Bilbao and Marseille.

The 62-year-old has an impressive CV, he has won top flight league titles in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys and Vélez Sársfield, whilst also guided Bilbao to the UEFA Europa League final and the Copa del Rey final, during his time in charge of the Spanish club.

But how will go about improving the current Leeds United squad?

If Bielsa goes about this the same way that he wanted to go at West Ham, this could be an exciting summer for Leeds United. He told West Ham’s board told that he would keep just eight players and that the rest were not good enough, but is this plan at Leeds?

Leeds already possess some top talent such as Samuel Saiz, as well as having some impressive youngsters like Tom Pearce, Paudie O’Connor and Bailey Peacock-Farrell. With the introduction of Biesla this could give these players a chance to shine.

But it already looks like he’s dipping into the transfer market, as Leeds have been linked to sign Brentford defender John Egan and nearly £12million rated Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth.

If we translate this tweet it states “Julian Foyth appears on Loco Bielsa’s radar in order to reinforce Leeds through a loan deal Tottenham.” This could prove to be a quality piece of business already from the new boss.

Maybe Biesla will try to implement the glamours fluidity of 3-3-1-3 formation with a defined style and fast pace and intense approach, if he can make this type of football work in the Championship, Leeds fans could experience something special next season.

Here is what a Marcelo Biesla side is capable of:
