Bristol City edge ahead of Stoke to sign Manchester United goalkeeper

Bristol City have edged ahead of Stoke City to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

According to Nixon, he believes that Bristol City are winning the race with the tweet “Bristol City slight edge in race to sign Henderson on loan from Man U. Unless Stoke get a buyer for Butland first.”

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is wanted by Fulham, Stoke and Bristol City but it seems like Bristol City are leading the race unless Stoke manage to get a buyer for England international goalkeeper Jack Butland.

However, the young Manchester United youngster has certainly caught the eye in his massive success at Shrewsbury Town last season. The 21-year-old shot-stopper has been regarded by many as the best goalkeeper in League One last season. Henderson’s quality hasn’t gone unnoticed either. A vast array of clubs have hinted at acquiring the young goalkeeper, who deserves a chance to prove himself at Championship level.

Bristol City boss, Lee Johnson has watched Henderson on several occasions this season and City are in the market for a ‘keeper after Luke Steele was released and with question marks over Frank Fielding’s future at the club.

Championship side’s would no doubt want Henderson for first-team football, but the England under-21 international also had attracted interest from the Premier League, where clubs would probably view him as a long-term investment. But Manchester United have tied him down to a new deal.

His ex boss Paul Hurst argued he was one of the most consistent keepers in the league, this was eventually backed up as he was included in the League One team of the year.

He said: “I think you’d struggle to find someone that has performed as consistently. I’m sure there are some out there that would have an argument for that but I’ve seen quite a few goalkeeping errors.

“I’m struggling to think of when Dean has done that and that’s big credit to him.

“He’d certainly be up there. I wouldn’t want to swap him for anyone.”

It’s clear that he has a bright future in the game but where will the youngster be playing his football next season?
