Bolton Wanderers move for ex-Birmingham City and Sheffield United striker

Bolton Wanderers have made a move for free agent striker Clayton Donaldson, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The experienced forward is available on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield United at the end of the season. Bolton Wanderers boss, Phil Parkinson, is believed to be keen on bringing Donaldson in to bolster his attacking options for next season.

The Trotters have been busy bringing in reinforcements to their squad and have already completing free transfer swoops for former Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City midfielder Jason Lowe and Walsall’s Erhun Oztumer. They have now set their sights on Clayton Donaldson.

The 34-year-old has got a decent goal scoring record at Championship level and is not a bad option for Bolton. He managed 5 goals in 29 games for Sheffield United in his single season at Bramall Lane.

Donaldson’s experience in the Football League could come in handy for Bolton, should they bring him to the Macron Stadium. He started his career at Hull City and has since had spells at York City, Hibernian and Crewe Alexandra.

He scored 49 goals in 130 games for Crewe which earned him a move to Brentford in 2011. He was prolific for the Bees and bagged 53 goals in 155 matches before leaving them for Birmingham City in 2014.

Donaldson spent four years with the Blues in the Championship, scoring 33 goals. He is always capable of scoring goals and would not be a bad acquisition for Bolton Wanderers.
