5 Championship strikers who could make a real impact this season

5. Craig Mackail-Smith – Brighton and Hove Albion

Craig Mackail-SmithThis lad was excellent when he was at Peterborough. He seemed to be scoring goals for fun and with 80 goals in 185 appearances there is good cause to suggest that he is a top striker at this level. After attracting a large amount of attention from many Premier League clubs the forward decided Brighton was his preferred destination due to their ambition of playing top flight football within the next few years. Mackail-Smith joined from the Posh on a 4 year deal which was worth up to £3.25 million. After a decent start to his Brighton career, Mackail-Smith hit a goal drought and struggled to regain his scoring touch. This coupled with injuries has blighted his career with the Seagulls. However, he is still good enough to make nearly any Championship team and now that last season’s main man Ulloa is on his way out the door it is time for Mackail-Smith to step up to the plate. He will be keen to impress new boss Sami Hypia so I’m sure he will have been working hard and will now have a full pre-season under his belt which is always important. Having made the play-offs last campaign the Seagulls will be looking to sneak a top 6 place once again this year and Craig Mackail-Smith could be at the heart of making this happen.
