5 Championship strikers who could make a real impact this season

1. Chris Martin – Derby County

Chris MartinMartin signed permanently for the Rams at the start of the 2013/2014 season after a brief loan spell at the back end of the 2012/2013 campaign. The former Norwich City man was snapped up on a free by ex-Derby gaffer Nigel Clough. After a decent start to last season, Chrissy Martin only improved under new guidance after the appointment of head coach Steve McClaren. A real poacher. Martin did though score the odd long range effort, his free kick against Bournemouth one to be admired. 22 league goals in the Championship is certainly an impressive tally, however as most Derby fans will tell you he was much more than an out and out goal scorer. Everything was played through him. His solid frame and clever link up play allowed Craig Bryson and Johnny Russell to pitch in with a number of goals from midfield areas. As well as being the league’s top scorers, County ended up finishing 3rd and were famously just edged out in a thrilling play-off final at Wembley by QPR. 2014/2015 is one of Derby’s most important campaigns in recent memory. If Chris Martin can net another 20+ goals this time around, Rams fans have good reason to be excited about the prospect of automatic promotion.
