Stoke City getting busy with Werder Bremen defender a new target

Stoke City are interested in Werder Bremen defender Robert Bauer, according to Belgian news outlet Voetbal.

The Bundesliga full-back is also the subject of interest from Stoke’s Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City, as well as Belgian top flight side Club Brugge.

The Potters are getting busy as they look to prepare a squad to mount a promotion push to the Premier League next season. Their new boss, Gary Rowett, left his post at Derby County boss to take over at Stoke and has already signed Nigerian midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo and Wolves’ striker Benik Afobe.

German defender Robert Bauer could be next on his list of targets. The right-back, who can also play as a wing-back, would certainly give the Potters more options in defence. He could become available this summer as he only played 16 games for them in the Bundesliga last season.

Bauer started his career at Karlsruher SC and was snapped up by Inglostadt 2014. He broke into the Inglostadt first-team as a youngster and went onto play 42 games for them before he was signed by Werder Bremen in August 2016.

The 23-year-old has also represented Germany at Under-20 level and played for them at the Olympics in 2016. He is a highly-rated and has a bright future ahead of him. He would be a decent signing by one of Stoke, West Brom or Swansea City.
