OPINION: Konsa’s move to Brentford one of the shock deals of the summer

Brentford’s signing of Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa has come as something of surprise with the player thought to have been tracked by English Premier League clubs.

The 20-year-old centre-back penned a three-year deal at Griffin Park yesterday as revealed by The Bees’ official website.

Both Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion had been strongly linked with summer moves for the defender who is regarded as one of the most promising young players in the country. Konsa received his first call-up to the England Under-21 squad for the Toulon Tournament last month and is tipped for a huge future in the game.

Konsa’s move to Brentford came as a shock with the player having been expected to move to the English Premier League this summer. Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion’s loss is certainly The Bees’ gain and Dean Smith’s men could have top player on their books if Konsa continues to progress at a rapid rate.

The transfer fee paid by the West Londoners was undisclosed, however, the club could profit on two fronts. Konsa is expected to flourish with his new club while they could command a huge transfer fee for his services in the future if he does become a hit and reach his true potential at Griffin Park.

Konsa made just 86 appearances for former club Charlton Athletic but The Addicks will be sad to see the player leave after making huge strides at The Valley since making his senior debut in August 2016.
