Golden Boot winner HASN’T signed for Bristol City – Leeds United and Nottingham Forest could still be in the hunt

Rumours had begun to surface on social media tonight that Peterborough United striker Jack Marriot had signed for Bristol City. These rumours, however, have just been quashed by the Bristol Post.

A photoshopped tweet that suggested that 27 goal striker and League One Golden Boot winner had made a move to Ashton Gate began doing the rounds on Twitter. This meant that fans immediately started to think that the striker who has become hot property during this window had made a move to Bristol City from Peterborough United.

Leeds United and Nottingham Forest fans can now happily breathe a sigh of relief though, given the fact that it’s been confirmed that Marriot hasn’t signed for Bristol City.

Leeds United have been linked with the striker for a long time and most recently, it was emerging that Nottingham Forest were a club who were interested in securing the striker’s services for the forthcoming campaign. It’s arguable that Nottingham Forest is a natural destination for the striker’s next move, given the fact that the Reds managed to sign Britt Assombalonga from Peterborough United, developed him and then sold him on for a healthy profit.

Marriott will be looking to get out next season and score goals, whatever jersey he is wearing. Although it isn’t Bristol City yet, there are a number of suitors who are somewhat interested in securing his signature in the coming weeks. The problem with this is of course, the finances – and Peterborough United will not sell the striker for cheap under any circumstances. If a club does make a move for Marriot, they could sign one of the hottest strikers around.
