Nottingham Forest close in on record signing as fee is agreed

Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Portuguese giants Benfica that will see Portuguese midfielder Joao Carvalho complete a move to the East Midlands.

Sky Sports have reported that a fee in the region of £13 million has been agreed between the two clubs, in a deal that is set to smash Nottingham Forest’s record transfer.

The transfer is now subject to the agreement of personal terms, and Carvalho completing a medical, but it is set to be complete in the coming days.

The £13 million transfer fee will blitz the East Midlands side’s previous transfer record. As it stands, the most they have ever spent on one player is the £6.2 million they paid to take Britt Assombalonga away from Peterborough United back in August 2014.

Joao Carvalho is a 21-year-old midfielder, who has enjoyed a successful breakthrough season at current club Benfica. His performances for the Portuguese side have attracted the interest of a number of clubs around Europe, but it seems that Nottingham Forest are going to win the race to sign him.

Carvalho graduated through the Portuguese club’s famous youth academy, and has been there ever since 2005. However, it wasn’t until last season that he broke into the first team. Prior to this, he had to settle for B team football, playing 80 games for their reserve side.

He is yet to feature for the Portugal senior side, but he is extremely experience at youth international level. He has been capped by Portugal at every age group, ranging from under 15 all the way to under 21.
