Premier League giants Chelsea have joined the race to sign Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, according to a report from TeamTalk.
Grealish looks set to leave the Midlands club after their failure to earn promotion back to the Premier League left them in a difficult financial position.
They came close, narrowly losing 1-0 to Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final, but Tom Cairney’s goal was enough to condemn Villa to another year of second tier football, and it is bound to be a difficult one for Steve Bruce’s side.
Aston Villa are currently on the brink of administration, and know that they will need to offload several players this summer in order to attempt to balance the books.
One player that is highly sought after is Jack Grealish, with Chelsea becoming the latest team to show an interest in the 22-year-old.
Premier League sides Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur were the front runners to secure Grealish’s signature, but Chelsea have reportedly offered Aston Villa a very tempting package.
The Sky Bet Championship side reportedly want £40 million for their youngster, but Chelsea are set to offer £30 million, BUT will loan Grealish back to Villa for the 2018/19 season.
This is bound to turn the heads of the Villa backroom staff, who will be desperate to keep hold of as many of their star players as they can.
Chelsea finished fifth in the 2017/18 Premier League table, and will consequently be playing Europa League football next season. They will be hoping to return to the Champions League next season, having won the famous competition in 2012.
