West Brom rivalling Leeds United for 19-cap international

West Bromwich Albion are the latest club to show an interest in Derby County striker Matej Vydra, and are set to rival Leeds United over the signing of the Czech Republic international.

Leeds’ interest in Vydra first started last week, but yesterday the Baggies joined the race to sign the striker, who won the Sky Bet Championship golden boot this season with 22 goals.

Leeds were originally thought to be favourites to sign the Rams forward, but due to his history with West Brom, it is imaginable that they will become the new favourites.

Matej Vydra enjoyed a loan spell at the Baggies during the 2013/14 season. While at the Midlands club, Vydra scored three Premier League goals.

West Brom are no longer a Premier League team following their relegation from the top flight in the 2017/18 season. They will be hoping to bounce back as quickly as possible, and the signing of Matej Vydra could help them do that.

The Baggies are preparing to lose a number of first team players, with strikers Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon both set to leave the club this summer.

On the other hand, Leeds United appear to have a choice of strikers, with former Hull City forward Abel Hernandez also tipped for a move to Elland Road.

However, the Yorkshire club will only be able to afford one of the star strikers, so they may need to make their decision quickly before they miss out on Vydra.

The striker, who scored 22 goals last season in the league, is available for a cut-throat price of £7 million, as reported by the72 yesterday.
