Derby agree fee for Thorne

Derby County’s pursuit of West Brom midfielder George Thorne appears to be nearing an end. Derby have announced this evening that a fee has been agreed and the player is expected to sign over the weekend. The announcement signals an end to one of the most drawn out transfer sagas in Derby’s history. Thorne had a 12 game loan period with Derby at the end of last season and was pivotal to the run that saw them narrowly miss out on promotion at Wembley. Derby have already had two bids rejected for the player and Thorne has handed in two transfer requests to West Brom.

The signing likely marks the end of a summer of signings that have left Derby in a strong position entering the 14/15 season. Craig Bryson, Will Hughes, Jeff Hendrick and Jake Buxton have all signed new long term contracts and Derby have strengthened their youth team with several free transfers.
