Leeds United are close to completing a deal to sign Carpi’s Jerry Mbakogu according to a report from the Yorkshire Post.
While Leeds have not got a manager after they decided to sack Paul Heckingbottom, though it is rumoured that Marco Bielsa will take control soon, the club are already looking to sign players ahead of next season. The club were disappointed to not push forward after they came close to finishing in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs in 2017 and are hoping no matter who the manager will be that they can finally make it into the top six.
And it appears that they are close to signing a striker that is currently unknown on these shores. Mbakogu has not played in England instead the Nigerian striker has played most of his career in Serie B in Italy. He started his professional career with Padova but moved to current club Carpi in 2014 after a successful loan spell. In his time at the Modena based club he has scored 28 goals in 92 appearances, a decent score rate especially as he has often been used as a midfielder and a winger during his time there.
And now it looks like he will be heading to Leeds with this report saying that a £2.6m deal has been mooted for the forward. This deal may be a disappointment to some Leeds fans as with there being reports of Abel Hernandez signing they may have expected more big names but sometimes these unknowns end up becoming star players.
