Potential new head-coach wants pre-season to start early

The appointment of Marcelo Bielsa isn’t done yet, everyone outside of Leeds United seems to think it is but the fans and the club aren’t convinced, or the club aren’t letting on anyway. Today it has been revealed that if Bielsa is to accept then he wants the players back for pre-season next week.

The club are expected to make an announcement on a head-coach this week and Bielsa is by far and away the favourite and number one choice. The fact it’s gone on for some time can make the deal seem more or less likely depending on what factors you think about. Victor Orta has today alerted the players to the possibility of pre-season starting next week if Marcelo Bielsa does take the job, suggesting a lot of thought into the job has gone into it by the Argentine.

Pre-season was due to start in two weeks but it has become evident that Bielsa is laying down the law, preparing everything even before he decides to accept the job. Over the weekend we learned that he has highlighted his admiration for Derby County striker Matej Vydra and we also know he wants significant transfers through the door before pre-season kicks off. However, no deal is signed and as I keep saying, until we hear he’s taking the job from either the club or Phil Hay it’s still a case of if.

Bielsa taking the Leeds United job would be the single biggest appointment in the history of Leeds United and that is why it seems so unlikely until it is actually done. We have had some big and famous names over the years, Don Revie, the greatest in our history but he wasn’t a huge appointment, he became the legend whilst in charge at Leeds United, Bielsa already comes with the tag of being one of the best coaches on the planet.

Does this revelation today give us a good indication, yes, but does it confirm it? No. This is set to be a huge week for the club, if he turns us down which is still a very real possibility then we need to get our act together very fast, fans will be gutted and we need plans in place. If he says yes it will instantly become the most exciting dawn in the clubs recent history. “El Loco” to Leeds United? The name suggests any outcome is possible this week.
