Why Leeds’ £10 million striker target is perfect fit for club

As the news came through that Abel Hernandez may well be heading to Turkey Leeds fans began to fear the worst, it’s certainly not a done deal at all though. As fans began to wonder what plan b was they got their answer, £10 million rated Maetej Vydra.

Vydra is arguably the best striker in the Championship and finished as the leagues top scorer last season. Derby County are obviously looking to slash the wage budget at the club and Vydra would bring in a big chunk of money that would help massively. According to the reports Derby are willing to listen to offers and Leeds are looking into trying to sign the player.

Vydra would be a marquee signing, arguably a safer option with the history of Abel Hernandez injuries but the Uruguayan is the bigger name. The two are very different, Vydra doesn’t have the pace of Hernandez but he’ll drop into pockets of space and look to turn and have a crack. He has some serious talent and the stats back up the price tag which isn’t unusual at this level anymore.

Vydra would fit perfectly with some of the players we currently have at the club. Samu Saiz would be wondering what hit him after playing behind the movement of Lasogga and Ekuban and Pablo Hernandez and Adam Forshaw would relish the clever runs. Despite not having sizzling place he’ll play off the shoulder at times, he doesn’t really have one way that he has to play and he can operate behind a striker as well.

Leeds’ pursuit of Abel Hernandez has jeopardised by big money and Champions League football and there isn’t too much the club can do about it. One thing that may turn the deal back in the favour of the club is a head-coach, one name especially, Marcelo Bielsa. We are expecting a decision in the next couple of days regarding the Argentine coach, both Vydra and Hernandez may well fancy the chance to play under someone Pep Guardiola has described as the best coach in the world.
