Paul Scholes emerges as candidate for vacant League Two role

Paul Scholes’ odds to become the next Oldham Athletic boss have fallen to 3/1 on SkyBet.

The Manchester United legend is still second favourite behind the Latics’ defender Peter Clarke, who is the odds-on 2/5 favourite. Other names such as ex-Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn and former Carlisle United manager Keith Curle are also in the running.

Paul Scholes has been linked with the Oldham job before and could be handed his first job in management this summer. Ex-footballers such as Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joey Barton have all been given a route into management in recent months with Rangers, Derby County and Fleetwood Town respectively.

Oldham could be the next club to bring in one of the next generation of managers. Their aim is to gain an immediate return back to League One next season and could see Scholes as the man to get them back there.

Scholes will have to battle with Peter Clarke for the Latics’ job. The 36-year-old defender is looking to get into management and is the surprising odds-on favourite for the Oldham job despite spending the latter part of last season on loan at Bury. Clarke has previously played for Blackpool, Southend United and Huddersfield Town in his career.

Paul Scholes played over 700 games for Manchester United in his playing days and won the Premier League eleven times, FA Cup three times, League Cup on two occasions and the Champions League twice. He would be a impressive appointment by Oldham.
