Sky Bet League One club Plymouth Argyle are understood to be keen to sign former Celtic defender Efe Ambrose this summer according to the Plymouth Herald.

The 29-year-old Nigeria-born centre-back currently plays his football with Hibernian who he joined on a permanent basis last summer after enjoying an initial loan spell at Easter Road.

Argyle are set to lose contract rebel Sonny Bradley this summer and it is believed that Hibs defender Ambrose is manager Derek Adams’ number one target as the club look to plot another promotion push in Sky Bet League One.

Ambrose started his career in his homeland with Kaduna United before moving to Isreal where he spent two years with Ashdod. In summer 2012, the player joined Glasgow giants Celtic and he went on to play his part in a Hoops side which won four consecutive Scottish Premiership titles.

After falling out of favour at Celtic Park, Ambrose joined Hibernian on loan in February 2017 and helped guide the club back to the top flight. He signed a two-year deal on Leith last summer and was instrumental as the Hibees recorded a fourth place finish in their first year back in the Scottish Premiership.

Ambrose has over 50 international caps to his name for Nigeria, although he has missed out on being included in the 23-man squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
