Leeds “agree deal in principle” with Bielsa with appointment wanted in “next 7 days”

If it does eventually come off then it is sure to be worth the wait. Marcelo Bielsa would be the biggest and boldest appointment in Leeds United history, no doubt about that. This evening the Mirror are reporting that a deal in principle has been agreed and Leeds hope to make the appointment in the next week.

The deal does look to be progressing where we stand tonight and an appointment is likely next week if they can continue with that progression moving forward. Phil Hay is reporting the deal is some way down the line and he is the source that Leeds fans trust the most. Andrea Radrizzani attended the successful hosting of England and Costa Rica at Elland Road last night and looked in fine spirits with Victor Orta seemingly in Argentina trying desperately to do a deal.

Bielsa, one of the most high-profile coaches in World football has been praised by some of the biggest names in the game, Pep Guardiola declaring him the best coach on the planet, Mauricio Pochettino backing that and the likes of Gabriel Batistuta and Diego Simione suggesting he was the most influential coach of their playing career. Leeds could be the long-term project Bielsa would relish, his history of unprecedented tactics, forward thinking and ability to mould teams is far beyond the imagination of what many Leeds fans had thought could happen this summer.

The crossroads are upon Leeds United and not only is it reported Leeds are closing in but it’s also reported tonight he has turned down Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. Further reports are that Bielsa is already having potential signings ran past him and these are coming from reputable sources. Fingers crossed this is indeed the start of the run-in for the Bielsa deal, the news is that Steve Bruce is the second choice for Leeds United, the Aston Villa manger has just missed out on promotion with Aston Villa.
