Gary Rowett set for crunch talks with Potters striker over his future

Stoke City boss Gary Rowett is set for crunch talks with striker Saido Berahino in a bid to resolve the former West Brom man’s future at the club, according to The Telegraph.

Berahino was frozen out by former Stoke boss Paul Lambert during his time at the club and the striker didn’t play a part in the latter part of the season as the Potters were relegated.

It is understood that Berahino has contacted Rowett as he aims to find out if he is in his plans for the forthcoming Championship season.

The 24 year old hasn’t scored for 2 years, and the fate of his career now rests with Rowett.

The new Stoke manager has claimed that the situation will be resolved by next week.

The former Derby boss said: “Saido contacted me straight away in fairness and wanted the opportunity to speak to me so I will do that next week.

“I’m aware of his situation, I’m aware of some of the things he needs and needs to do better and I will view any of those things as a blank canvas.

“But at the same time any of those players will have to do certain things, they will have to fit certain parameters and that they will have to match certain standards for me to have them in the squad for next season.”

Berahino was signed for the club by Mark Hughes but has failed to find the back of the net in 28 league appearances.

He has struggled with his discipline since his move to the Bet365 Stadium and has failed to reignite his career since his move from West Brom.

However, Berahino could prove to be a good option for Rowett in the second tier as he looks to get his Stoke City career up and running.
