Three players Championship new boys Stoke City should look to sign

After a disappointing season last campaign in the Premier League, Stoke City now face a season in the second tier for the first time since 2008. Here are three players the Potters should sign to challenge for an instant return to the top flight:

Lewis Grabban, AFC Bournemouth – A lack of goals was a key factor in why Stoke were relegated last season. Xherdan Shaqiri was the clubs top scorer with 8 goals. Grabban notched 20 goals in the Championship last term as he split his time between Sunderland and Aston Villa. The striker scored 12 times for the Black Cats, and scored 8 times as he helped Villa to the Playoff Final. With Benik Afobe rumoured to be heading to the Bet365 Stadium, Grabban would make the perfect strike partner.

Aden Flint, Bristol City – With Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea and Kevin Wimmer leaving the club on loan, there is a shortage in defenders at Stoke. Flint captained Bristol City last season in an impressive season for the Robins. He scored 8 goals from defence last campaign with his height and aerial ability a big part of his game.  With Ryan Shawcross also being linked with a move away, Flint would provide some strong leadership needed for the Potters.

Sam Johnstone, Manchester United – With it looking increasingly likely that Jack Butland won’t be at the club next season, Gary Rowett needs to work quickly and identify a new number one. Johnstone has impressed in two seasons at Villa Park but now finds himself back at the Red Devils. It is unlikely that the 25 year old will break into Jose Mourinho’s first team and could find a new home in Stoke.
