Sunderland make apporach for Celtic youngster

Sunderland have made an approach to sign Celtic’s Lewis Morgan according to a report from The Scottish Sun.

With Sunderland’s new manager Jack Ross making his name as a coach with Scottish teams such as Alloa Athletic and St Mirren, it was expected that he would look to his native country for signings. There have already been reports that they were interested in signing Morgan but now things are more concrete as this report has revealed they have made an approach to sign him on loan.

The 21-year-old winger is very familiar to Ross as he was at St Mirren working under Ross when he had the best season of his life so far. It was his form there that earned him a move to Celtic in January, though he was loaned back to them for the rest of the season. And despite playing in the Scottish Championship, his form was good enough to earn him a call up to the Scotland squad and he has now got five caps.

But Sunderland will have to wait a while to get a response from Celtic about this transfer. Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers wants to give Morgan a chance of breaking into their first team in their pre-season. That means he will get a chance in their friendlies in July, meaning Sunderland will have to have to wait until mid-July to see if they have signed him. But with Morgan being very talented, the Black Cats will be happy to wait.
