Striker Sean Maguire has penned a new three-year contract with Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End. The Republic of Ireland international is one of Alex Neil’s key men at Deepdale, making a big impression since signing from Cork City last year.
Whilst injury did cause Maguire some issues with the Lancashire club last season, that clearly has wetted his appetite even further to make up for lose time with the Lilywhites in the season to come. The 24-year-old, who wears the 24 squad number, has signed a deal that will keep him with Preston until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
The Luton-born forward has netted ten Championship goals since joining, and has only made 19 starts, which represents a great strike rate. Maguire lauded the impact Neil has made on his career, too,
“I have improved a lot since I signed for Preston North End and that’s what I want to continue doing and I think the gaffer has played a huge part in that.
“I have come on leaps and bounds since I started my first campaign last August and I want to continue improving and there is no better club to do that than Preston North End.
“We set the bar high last season, finishing seventh and we want to take this club to the top tier and I think next season we need to push on.”
With Maguire already setting sights on guiding Preston into the Premier League, it promises to be an exciting summer at Deepdale to see who Neil can sign to implement the likes of himself in the squad. Promotion is very much the aim, and Maguire will need to score his fair share of goals to make that dream a possible reality.
