Sky Bet have made Stuart McCall as the odds-on favourite to become the next manager of Sky Bet League One side Doncaster Rovers. McCall is priced at 8/11 to replace Darren Ferguson at the Keepmoat Stadium, who parted ways earlier this week.
McCall has been out of work since leaving a job role in Sky Bet League One, that being with Bradford City, whom he has managed of two separate occasions. He also began his playing career with the Bantams, where he also had two separate playing spells at Valley Parade. The 53-year-old is the clear favourite for the vacancy at the time of writing.
There are only two other names with single-figure odds with Sky Bet at present. In second place in the bet, behind frontrunner McCall, is Neil Redfearn. He has represented many clubs in the area as both player and manager, such as Leeds United and Rotherham United. His price is 5/1. Simon Grayson is a name linked with practically every managerial job going in the EFL this summer, certainly in the lower ends of the Championship and in League One. Doncaster is the latest, and his price of 8/1 right now suggests it is an unlikely appointment.
Therefore, it seems there is some support in Leeds-born McCall taking on the job. Whilst he is yet to win any managerial honours so far, he did guide Bradford into the play-offs, whilst he managed Scottish giants Rangers for a period in 2015, where they suffered defeat in the play-offs as well. He would surely entertain the opportunity to return to club management.
