Derby County and Middlesbrough battling it out for Sunderland midfielder

Derby County and Middlesbrough are both keen on signing Sunderland’s Paddy McNair, according to the Yorkshire Post.

Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion have seen two bids rejected by Sunderland but are not the only club trying to lure him away from the Stadium of Light.

Derby County are showing an interest in bringing McNair to Pride Park. Their new manager, Frank Lampard, is looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. He may also try and use his links with Chelsea to sign some young talent.

Middlesbrough are also being linked with McNair. The Riverside club are keen on some reinforcements this summer as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League. Tony Pulis’ side made the Championship Play-Offs last season and are hoping to make the next step in the next campaign.

McNair’s future at Sunderland is in doubt after their relegation to League One last season. They are trying to keep hold of him by rejecting two bids from Brighton but will now have to see off interest from Derby and Middlesbrough.

The 23-year-old played 16 times for the Black Cats last season and managed 5 goals. McNair is a useful player as he is versatile and is a decent squad player. He started his career at Manchester United and played 27 times for the Red Devils before moving to Sunderland in August 2016 for £5.5 million along with Donald Love.

McNair could be on his way again this summer but his destination is yet to be known.
