With Leeds United chasing a goalkeeper to replace the unwanted Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan the battle for the number one spot looks to be as tough as it has been for many years next season. Leeds’ number one target Angus Gunn is still on the agenda, as is Leeds United fan David Stockdale if the unlikely Gunn deal doesn’t come off.

There will be a battle as well make no mistake about that because Leeds now have a Northern Ireland international on the books in Baily Peacock-Farrell, a product of the academy. He is currently the number one and until someone comes in with pedigree and impresses then it will stay that way. If we weren’t to sign a goalkeeper then it wouldn’t be the end of the world due to the form of the youngster and his dramatic development but someone with stature and experience wouldn’t do any harm at all.

David Stockdale is first and foremost a very good goalkeeper at Championship level, in fact he’s easily one of the best. He does have the odd mistake in him, he did at Brighton and he did last season and Birmingham but in the man he is one of the most respected goalkeepers outside of the Premier League. Brighton didn’t want to lose him when they headed to the Premier League but he wanted to move back up north and a move to Birmingham came about but with Garry Monk looking to make some money to spend this summer he’s now available.

Leeds are looking into the possibility and there are more than just a few reasons he would make a great addition. He knows how to get out of this division, he did it with Brighton and that is very valuable. He knows what it means to play for Leeds United, why? Because he and his family are Leeds United fans. He is a very good goalkeeper and he is experienced, we saw the value of that when Rob Green was at the football club. The wages might be steep but a challenge for promotion would be worth the increase. Between him and Peacock-Farrell we would have the best situation between the sticks in many years.
