Middlesbrough youngster undergoes medical for Belgian side

Middlesbrough winger Mikael Soisalo has undergone a medical at Belgian side Zulte Waregem, as reported by HLN.

The youngster only signed for Middlesbrough a seasons ago, and has been outstanding for Boro’s Under-23 side since arriving in January 2017. The Finnish Under-21 international will sign for the Belgian side Zulte Waregem upon completing his medical.

Soisalo signed for Boro from Ilves in Finland for a reported £180k, but there has been no indication of any transfer fee from Zulte Waregem to secure the winger’s services. It is still unsure whether the Finn will sign on a permanent deal or as part of a loan-deal.

Middlesbrough are short of options in wide areas with only Stewart Downing, Adama Traore and Marvin Johnson as natural wingers. Soisalo fits this mould perfectly and with Tony Pulis’ guidance could have made a real push for the senior side.

He was tipped by many to break into the first team picture in the coming years, and his ability shone through in the under 23s, putting him a cut above some of his peers.

Soisalo played in the EFL Trophy for Middlesbrough last season against League Two side Accrington Stanley and League One side Wigan Athletic. He provided an assist against Accrington in their 3-2 loss at The Crown Ground.

Fellow-Middlesbrough midfielder Julien De Sart spent a season long loan at Zulte Waregem last season, but they expressed not to make his loan permanent. Hopefully Soisalo’s move will do a lot smoother than that of his Middlesbrough teammate.
