Nottingham Forest winger set to leave for Greece

Nottingham Forest’s Barrie McKay is set to leave and sign for Olympiacos according to a report from Greek publication SDNA.

The 23-year-old winger may not have been a regular for Forest last season but he still got onto the pitch plenty of times and was able to make an impact. In his 28 appearances for the club, he would score five goals which is a decent tally when you consider that the East Midlands side were rather average this season.

So it may be a surprise to see that not only is McKay set to leave but he is heading to Greece. Champions League regulars Olympiacos are interested in signing the Scottish winger and could complete a deal in the next few days. Their board member Giannis Vrentzos has met with Forest about McKay and the fact the two sides have the same owner, Vangelis Marikanis, should make it a smooth process. Their head coach Pedro Martin is also a fan of the player and is happy for the deal to go ahead.

McKay only signed for Forest last summer so it is a bit weird that they are getting rid of him so quickly. However this must mean that head coach Aitor Karanka doesn’t see a future for him and it will be better for him to play elsewhere on a regular basis than just be stuck in the Forest reserves. But fans may be concerned that transfers made just a year ago are already being deemed as failures by the man in charge.
