Norwich City goalkeeper set to leave Carrow Road

Norwich City will let goalkeeper Michael McGovern leave the club this summer as the Canaries look for a new number one at Carrow Road, according to ITV.

Daniel Farke looks set to reshuffle the goalkeeping department this summer, and there is no place for the Northern Irish international.

Last season’s number one Angus Gunn had a fantastic season on loan from Manchester City, with his performances keeping McGovern out of the side.

Gunn has returned to the Premier League Champions and now the Canaries are on the lookout for a new number one, but that won’t be McGovern.

The 33 year old was signed by Alex Neil in 2016 from Hamilton Academical on a three year deal after a number of eye catching displays with Northern Ireland during Euro 2016

However, in his two years with the club, McGovern has been restricted to just 20 appearances for the Yellows and has failed to nail down a starting spot during his time with the club.

He didn’t feature at all this season under Farke, but is set to leave the club this summer with one year remaining on his current deal with Norwich.

With the return of Remi Matthews from Plymouth Argyle and the potential arrival of a new number one, it would push McGovern further down the pecking order to third choice.

The shot-stopper is now at an age where he needs to be playing regular first team football, and that won’t come at Carrow Road.

There will be a new man between the sticks for the Yellows next season, but it seems as though McGovern won’t be part of the squad as Norwich look to build for a promotion push.
