Leeds United deal “99% complete”

A deal that will see Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa become the new boss of Leeds United is 99% complete, according to reports coming out of South America today.

Earlier today, the72 reported that it had been confirmed that talks were ongoing between Bielsa and Leeds United’s representatives, but it appears that a deal may now be closer than originally reported.

Popular South American media outlet Fichajes Goleador today confirmed on their Twitter page that talks had been successful and that Bielsa was 99% of the way to becoming the new boss at Elland Road.

The tweet can be seen above, and it translates to say that it is only 99% complete because “with crazy you never know.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s nickname in his native Argentina is “el loco,” which translates literally as crazy.

The former Athletic Bilbao and Marseille manager has been the bookies’ favourite to become the next Leeds United manager ever since Paul Heckingbottom was let go last week.

The ex-Barnsley boss lost his job at Elland Road on June 01, after failing to turn around the fortunes of the club. He had previously been appointed as the Whites manager back in March, replacing Thomas Christiansen, but he could only help them to a 13th place finish.

This cost him his job, but it seems that Leeds United are over it already, and are set to land a real coup with the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United’s director of football Victor Orta is currently in South America discussing terms with Bielsa according to a report from Sky Sports earlier.
