Leeds number one striker target confirms departure with goodbye message

Leeds United’s pursuit of Abel Hernandez has been made public in recent weeks and tonight the Hull City striker has announced his goodbye to the club and the fans. There was still hope in Hull that he would accept the deal on the table but that is now out of the window.

Leeds fans have reacted to the late news tonight.

Hernandez is wanted by a host of clubs including Aston Villa and some in Turkey. The Uruguay international is a very good striker at Championship level and most cubs in the division would be keen but high wages and injury issues may have put some off as Villa and Leeds seem to be the two competing. Aston Villa’s hopes were damaged after a 0-1 defeat to Fulham in the play-off final at Wembley which left the club in financial difficulty and facing a transfer embargo after ploughing money into the squad in the last two years.

Villa also have Jonathan Kodjia, Ross McCormack and Scott Hogan on their books and between the three there is over £40 million in fees and some crazy wages, it won’t be easy getting rod of those and until they do there is no chance of Hernandez coming through the door. Leeds have made an offer to the striker and believe it is viable as well as realistic, something which has probably increased in the last few days with the news that Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa is in talks with the club.

Hernandez will now make a decision on his future and although chances of a move to Turkey are high due to huge wages the fact he wouldn’t need to relocate from Hull if he didn’t want to and the potential arrival of Bielsa may just sway him towards Leeds United. Hull fans won’t like the idea of that and are probably coming to terms with the fact he has now officially left the club despite manager Nigel Adkins saying the offer was very good for him to stay.
