Wolves handed transfer boost as target threatens to quit current club

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with Sporting Lisbon and Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio for a number of weeks now, but they have been handed a boost in the pursuit of the shot stopper, after he threatened to quit the club he has spent his whole career at.

Tensions are high at Sporting Lisbon, with players, fans and members of the backroom staff all clashing, and Rui Patricio has said he will terminate his contract with the Portuguese club if matters are not resolved.

In May, 19 players were suspended by controversial president Bruno de Carvalho after a poor performance against Atletico Madrid, forcing the club to field a ‘B team’ for their league match the following weekend.

Tensions further boiled over when a group of fans decided to attack a number of first team players at the club’s training ground, and it seems that it has all got too much to handle for Rui Patricio.

Reports suggest that he has ‘resigned’ from the club, but he is still under contract there.

The Portuguese goalkeeper is an extremely experienced player, and would be quite the coup for Wolves if they could secure his signature.

He was the man in goal as Portugal lifted the European Championships in France back in 2016, and he has amassed 68 caps for his country.

Rui Patricio’s experience at club level is difficult to find, with the 30-year-old having played over 300 top flight games for Sporting Lisbon, as well as appearing in both the Champions League and Europa League year in year out.
