Former Leeds United boss has his say on who the next manager should be

Leeds United are currently searching for a new manager after Paul Heckingbottom was let go from his position yesterday (June 01).

The former Barnsley manager arrived at Elland Road back in March, but struggled to turn around the fortunes of the Whites, and has now paid the consequences with the loss of his job.

Rumours have already started linking a number of names with the vacancy at Elland Road, and a former Leeds United manager has had his say on the matter.

Steve Evans is currently in charge of Sky Bet League One side Peterborough United, but that has not stopped him putting his point of view across.

The number one name in the run-in is Argentinian boss Marcelo Bielsa, but Steve Evans does not think he is the man for the job.

As quoted by the Daily Star, he said: “They’re perhaps going to an Argentinian. I think his reputation in the game on a worldwide basis is phenomenal.”

“But will he know what it’s like going to the New York Stadium in Rotherham on a Tuesday night? I’m not so sure.”

Instead, the former Leeds United manager thinks that the Whites should approach a British manager, who boasts Sky Bet Championship experience.

He said: “I’m looking at Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy – English managers with track records of getting out of the Championship.”

The Peterborough United manager thinks that the Leeds United faithful would prefer to have a manager with known second tier experience as apposed to a foreign manager who has never managed in England.
