Bristol City’s Icelandic defender to join Russian club

Bristol City defender Hordur Magnusson is expected to complete a move to Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow this weekend according to the Bristol Post.

The 25-year-old Reykjavik born centre-back has spent the past two years at Ashton Gate but is now on the verge of an exit.

It is been reported that a deal to allow the player to join to Russian club CSKA Moscow is virtually complete and Magnusson is set to move to the VEB Arena within a matter of hours. It is thought that CSKA will pay over £2 million for his services.

Magnusson started his career in his homeland with Fram before moving to Juventus, initially as an academy player. The defender featured for The Old Lady at reserve team level but never made an appearance for the club’s first team.

Spells with Italian clubs Spezia and Cesena saw Magnusson gain some experience of competitive first team football before Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City signed the player for an undisclosed fee in summer 2016.

Since moving to Ashton Gate, Magnusson has regularly been included in Lee Johnson’s squad. The centre-back, who can also operate at left-back, has gone on to make 61 appearances for The Robins in which he has scored one goal.
