Birmingham City’s interest in Danish defender is confirmed

Second tier German outfit Union Berlin have confirmed that Sky Bet Championship club Birmingham City have held talks over a move for Danish defender Kristian Pedersen according to Birmingham Live.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old Ringsted born left-back in the past few days and their interest in the player has now been confirmed.

Pedersen is believed to have an automatic release clause of around £2.2 million written into his contract at the Stadion An der Alten and Birmingham City are thought to be willing to meet that figure.

The full-back started his career in his is native Denmark with Benlose IF before moving to hometown club Ringsted IF. He then joined Danish First Division club HB Koge where he spent two seasons before moving to current club Union Berlin.

The former Danish Under-21 international defender played something of a bit-part role during his first season with The Iron Ones but has featured more regularly for the club this term.

Birmngham City manager Garry Monk is looking to invest in his squad this summer with the club twice coming close to relegation to Sky Bet League One. The club’s fortunes have improved since his arrival at St Andrews earlier this year but his squad is in need of more competition for places.
