Leeds could send staggering statement with Marcelo Bielsa

The revelations from Spain that Leeds are considering a move for ex-Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa are quite remarkable. If the club could pull off a deal like this then the draw to the club for players, fans and coaches will increase tenfold. I guess the only question is, if they think it’s possible, why wouldn’t we?

The problem we have here is that Paul Heckingbottom is still in charge despite popular opinion and should be returning from his holidays in the coming days. The club don’t seem to have fully made up their mind but when an opportunity like this potentially comes along you do everything possible to get it done. The club was lifted by the appointment of Garry Monk two years ago and since then there has been two head-coaches, neither of whom have inspired during their time at the club.

An appointment like Bielsa would send a message out, not just in the Championship but around Europe. Bielsa has managed some huge clubs as well as the national team for Argentina for six years. Marseille, Lazio, Newells, Bilbao and  the Chile national side. His most recent job was at Lille in France where things didn’t go so well, but the track record speaks for itself and if this is to happen then Leeds would be making a huge statement.

We are now into June and a decision on Paul Heckingbottom needs to be made now, it needs to have already been made actually. There seems no way that the club are planning on keeping him as things stand, everything seems to be pointing to the reality that Heckingbottom won’t have a job in the very near future. The vast majority of fans want to see the back of Heckingbottom and someone like Bielsa would be most welcome. Whether this actually happens we will have to wait and see but it’s fair to say the news has gone down very well.
