Derby old pals act as Terry set for shock reunion with Lampard

John Terry is set for a reunion with former Chelsea team mate Frank Lampard at Derby County, according to the Daily Star.

The defender left Aston Villa this week after the club failed to win promotion back to the Premier League, and the two parties could not agree a new deal at Villa Park.

Lampard was confirmed as the new Rams boss on Thursday and has acted quickly in order to secure the services of his old Chelsea and England pal.

According to reports, Terry has agreed to another season in the second tier and will join up with Lampard at Derby County for next season.

Terry was a cult hero at Villa last season where he quickly built up a rapport between himself and the Villa faithful.

He was instantly made captain by manager Steve Bruce but could only lead the club to a Playoff Final where the Villains lost out to Fulham 1-0.

The defender made 32 appearances in claret and blue, scoring one goal in a win over Fulham in October.

Derby also made the playoffs last season but they lost to the Cottagers in the semi-final despite beating them 1-0 at Pride Park.

Failure in the Playoffs led former Rams boss Gary Rowett to leave the club for recently relegated Stoke City.

Lampard will be hoping to go one better this time around and will hope to rely on the experience of John Terry next season.

Despite only being in the job for a day, it seems that Lampard is close to making his first signing as Derby manager. It seems an interesting summer is ahead for fans of the Rams.
