Boro, Southampton and Everton chasing Middlesbrough defender

Southampton and Everton chasing Middlesbrough defender

Both Southampton and Everton are chasing Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, according to the Yorkshire Post.

Middlesbrough failed to win promotion back to the Premier League last season as they were defeated by Aston Villa in the Playoff Final.

Now the Teeside club could be forced to cash in on their vice captain as they prepare for another season in the Championship.

Tony Pulis has set a £25m asking price on his prized asset as the former Crystal Palace boss braces himself for bids this summer.

It looks set to be a difficult summer for the Riversiders as Adama Traore also looks to be on his way out of the club, with both Newcastle and Chelsea monitoring his situation.

Gibson has made 185 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 4 goals.

He is no stranger to the Premier League as the defender played every single game of Middlesbrough’s season in the top flight in the 2016/17 season, before they suffered instant relegation back to the Championship.

Gibson has been capped by England at a number of different youth levels but never by the senior team.

The centre back may have to actively seek a move away from the Riverside in a bid to put himself in the eyeline of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

Everton and Southampton both had difficult seasons in the top flight last season and Gibson could help sure up the leaky defences of both sides.

It looks set to be a tug of war for Gibson this summer but Middlesbrough will be keen to hold on to him as they look for promotion back to the Premier League at the second attempt.
