Nottingham Forest and Derby County leading Leeds United in race for League One playmaker

Nottingham Forest and Derby County are the joint favourites to sign Peterborough United star Marcus Maddison, according to odds given out by bookmakers Bet Victor.

The 24-year-old has been placed on the transfer list at the ABAX Stadium, and Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that Maddison will be allowed to leave the club this summer provided that a club can meet their valuation of him.

Last summer, Posh fans had been hoping to get at least £5 million for their playmaker, but after signing a new deal last summer, Maddison and MacAnthony came to an agreement that if Posh failed to get promoted in the 2017/18 campaign, he would be allowed to leave for a lower fee.

Because of this, it is expected that Maddison will leave the Cambridgeshire club for a fee somewhere in the region of £3 million this summer.

When you look at what you are getting for £3 million, it will be one of the bargains of the summer. Marcus Maddison has the best assist record over the past three seasons in England. That includes Premier League, and he has created more goals in the last three seasons than the likes of Mesut Ozil and Kevin De Bruyne.

Marcus Maddison is somewhat of an enigma at Peterborough United, with many fans still not sure how to react to him. That being said, many Posh fans adore him and will be gutted to see him leave.

It seems that he is on his way to the East Midlands, with Nottingham Forest and Derby County both given short odds of 4/1 to sign the former Newcastle United man.

Aston Villa and Birmingham City are rated at 6/1 to bring him in, whilst Leeds United look set to miss out at 8/1.
