Leeds United first pre-season friendly announced

After a disappointing 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign, one where Leeds United folded dramatically, fans will be looking forward to an improvement next season.

A lot needs to be done off the pitch before the 2018/19 season kicks off in earnest in early August. Gaps and deficiencies in the side need to be addressed with this summer’s early window being vital to this process.

But before the new campaign kicks off, there’s the not-too-small matter of pre-season to get over with first. Leeds are in the process of finalising their plans, which will be fully fleshed out later. However, their first pre-season friendly is against Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn stadium – confirmation coming via Forest Green’s official website.

The article says that Leeds United will “bring a firs XI side” for the game which is on July 17 and has a 7p.m. kick-off time. It is a game that sees United honour a part of the deal that took rated young midfielder Jordan Stevens to Elland Road.

Forest Green manager Mark Cooper, whose father Terry played in the great Leeds United side of the 60s and 70s, is looking forward to locking horns with the Championship side. Speaking on this Cooper said: “It is a really prestigious game for us to announce as our first pre-season friendly. Leeds United are a massive club and historically for myself and my family, it’s a game that will mean a lot to us and it’s one I will look forward to. It is something that we negotiated into the Jordan Stevens deal that all adds into the income of the club, which is another plus. They’ll be bringing their first team, so it will be a strong test for my players and one we should relish.”

Ticket details for the game are to be announced at a later date.
