Five Chelsea U23s that new Derby County boss Lampard could snag

Derby County have brought to a close the speculation about their new boss by announcing that Frank Lampard has signed on a three-year deal.

That deal sees the 106-cap former England international take up his first job in football management ,a job that he acknowledges will be difficult.

Speaking to Derby County’s media team, in words carried by the club’s website, Lampard says of his appointment: “This is my first job as a manager, but I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me, including the board. I know it won’t be easy – managing a football team never is – but I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Lampard first broke onto the footballing scene as a youngster at West Ham, his exploits for the Hammers earning him a move to Chelsea. It was here that he flourished as a player, winning multiple trophies including three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and one Champions League.

As is usually customary, managers appointed to clubs often look back at former sides, using their contacts and relationships there, when it comes to bringing in players on loan deals.

Lampard has no doubt built up these contacts and relationships whilst at Chelsea. With that in mind, here are five Chelsea Under-23 players who Lampard might want to snag for Derby next season.
