According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Wolves target Joe Allen from Stoke City for around £20m, but could be set to pass on the deal – with no guarantee of regular football for the Welsh Midfielder.

Newcastle United’s midfield options look relatively strong for the upcoming season with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame and Mikel Merino, there may be no place for Allen to gain a regular spot at St. James’ Park, despite the fact that he looks set to leave Stoke City this season, with Wolves thought to be another club interested in the midfielder.

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be very careful with the amount of money that he is set to spend in this transfer window and spending £20m on Allen, with no guarantees that he will make the starting eleven could be too costly of a decision to make.

It had been reported by Wales Online that Wolves were thought to be keen on Welsh International Allen but they seem to be pre-occupied with the signature of Benik Afobe, who looks set to sign from Bournemouth on a £12.5m deal.

As Stoke City look to adjust to life in the Championship, they won’t want to lose their key players like Joe Allen so early but the £20m that he’s valued at would be a considerable amount of money for the Potters to improve their team for the upcoming season.
