Wolves go head to head with Man City and Juventus for La Liga defender

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with almost every Portuguese player under the sun already this summer, and the Birmingham Mail is reporting that they have now been linked with Valencia’s Portuguese right-back Joao Cancelo.

However, their interest in the 24-year-old is being rivalled by a number of European giants, making it a very difficult deal to complete.

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Cancelo, with the Spanish media reporting that a bid of 45 million euros could be submitted in the coming days.

Italian giants Juventus are also said to be interested, as they look to bring in a replacement for Stephan Lichsteiner, who looks set to leave the Turin club this summer.

Manchester City’s fierce rivals Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Cancelo, who spent last season on loan in Italy playing for Inter Milan.

Despite a successful loan spell, Inter decided not to take Valencia up on a clause that was agreed before the loan deal.

The Italian giants had the chance to sign the Portuguese defender for 35 million euros, but have decided against making his move to the San Siro permanent.

Joao Cancelo is a client of Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese super agent of Wolves boss Nuno Santo. The Portuguese manager will be hoping that his close links with Mendes could push Cancelo to Molineux, despite interest from a number of European footballing giants.

Joao Cancelo has made seven appearances for his native Portugal, and despite being included in the preliminary squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia, he was not chosen in the final squad.
