Peterborough United have confirmed their fifth summer signing so far in a deal that sees Lincoln City midfielder Alex Woodyard join the club.

Woodyard has joined the Posh for an undisclosed fee on a two year deal, with the option for an extra year, as confirmed by Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony on Twitter.

Alex Woodyard was a target for a number of Sky Bet League One clubs this summer after an excellent couple of years with Lincoln city, but he has opted to move to the ABAX Stadium and link up with Posh boss Steve Evans, who was delighted with the signing.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Evans said: There is no doubt that the signing of Alex Woodyard represents the best signing in League One to date in the close season activity. Lincoln City have had the most wonderful two years all bar missing out on promotion via the play-offs last season. It is fair to say that many people at Lincoln City and outside Lincoln City would describe Alex as their best player and that comes down to performances.”

“On my recent trip to the States with the board, I highlighted players that I thought would be key to us for the new season and right at the top end of that list was Alex Woodyard.”

Woodyard becomes the fifth player to join Peterborough United in the close season, as the club undergo a major squad overhaul after failure to reach the Sky Bet League One Play-Offs last season.
